Together with his wife, Peachum makes every effort to put Macheath behind bars. For example, they bribe the hooker Jenny, Macheath&#8217;s ex-lover, into betraying the hiding place of her ex-pimp and they try to exert their influence on the police force. The problem is that the corrupt police chief Tiger Brown is a friend of Macheath. Ultimately they manage to get Macheath in prison, but he is quickly out of there with the help of Lucy, Brown&#8217;s daughter. Ultimately, Peachum threatens to thwart Queen Victoria&#8217;s coronation through the use of Peachum&#8217;s beggars&#8217; organization. Once again Jenny betrays Macheath and he ends up in prison for the second time. Macheath then tries to bribe the guards in vain, he will eventually be hanged.
