This historically informed performance of music over three hundred years old is musically led by the young Baroque specialist Camille Delaforge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on Virgil&#8217;s <em>Aeneid<\/em>, Purcell created a moving drama about the Trojan hero Aeneas and his love affair with the Carthaginian Queen Dido, thwarted by witchcraft. While the sails of the boat on which Aeneas leaves Carthage disappear like dots on the horizon, Dido&#8217;s world-famous lament sounds. \u201cRemember me but forget my fate,\u201d she sings, as she faces her death and calls on everyone to remember everything about her, except her tragic end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When Orpheus sang<\/strong><br>Prior to&nbsp;<em>Dido &amp; Aeneas<\/em>, Purcell\u2019s \u201cWhen Orpheus sang\u201d from his now-lost semi-opera&nbsp;<em>The Grove, or Love\u2019s Paradise<\/em>&nbsp;(1691), will be performed by Dutch National Opera Studio alumna Polly Leech. In addition, Camille Delaforge has enriched the instrumental interludes in&nbsp;<em>Dido &amp; Aeneas<\/em>&nbsp;with a variety of dance music, giving the continuo and orchestra ample space to flourish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Talent and development<\/strong> <br>The young artists of the National Opera Studio delve into Purcell&#8217;s enchanting baroque repertoire.
