Faust is depressed and calls on Satan for help. He sells his soul to the devil in exchange for youth, love and sex. Méphistophélès brings him into contact with Marguerite. Faust seduces her, fathers a child with her and then leaves her. In a duel with her brother, soldier Valentin, he is killed. Marguerite kills her child and is executed for it. She recognizes the devil in Mephistophélès and prays for forgiveness.
