Der Rosenkavalier (2010)

19 November ’10 > 14 December ’10

Info

Following one of the most beautiful overtures in opera history, the curtain opens to reveal the Marschallin’s bedroom, where she and the young Octavian slept together. Their intimacy is rudely interrupted by her cousin, Baron Ochs. The baron is a ruined squire and wants to improve his financial situation by marrying the daughter of the wealthy merchant Faninal. As usual, the baron wants to give his future fiancée a silver rose and asks his niece for help. The Marschallin suggests sending a cavalier and shows a photo of her beloved Octavian. Ochs is pleased with that choice and Octavian is promoted to Rosenkavalier.
Meanwhile, the Marschallin realizes that she is already getting old and she feels the transience. She knows that her lover will one day leave her for a younger woman.
Will things go well when Octavian, on behalf of Baron Ochs, hands over the silver rose to Sophie, the daughter of the wealthy merchant Faninal?
