What is it?
Uprising is the new community opera by composer Jonathan Dove. This opera explores the climate crisis through the eyes of the youth and asks pressing questions: how do we look beyond the here and now? What is the most effective form of protest? Are we really listening closely enough to those who are protesting? The opera gives a powerful voice to the key players in this crisis: young adults and nature itself.
We are looking for singers to join the choir, which plays a very important role in Uprising.
Who is it for?
Anyone who enjoys creative and theatrical expression and loves singing, with or without stage or vocal experience.
We will be forming both a youth choir and an adult choir, so everyone aged 13 and above is welcome.
Rehearsals will be led by a team of professionals. The performances will be sung by six professional soloists and the choir.
Auditions
After signing up, you will be invited—on a date to be confirmed—for an interview, during which we will ask you to sing a short piece. Auditions will take place in Venlo, Heerlen and Maastricht.
When is it?
– From March onwards: musical rehearsals
– From August onwards: staging rehearsals
– In November 2026: performances at the following theatres:
- Theater aan het Vrijthof, Maastricht
- Theater Heerlen
- Parktheater Eindhoven
- Schouwburg Concertzaal Tilburg
Where is it?
Musical rehearsals will take place in Venlo, Heerlen or Maastricht, depending on where you live. After the summer, we will rehearse more regularly with all groups together at Opera Zuid in Maastricht (Studio Malpertuis, Malpertuisplein 60).
