“An appealing, visual fairy tale adaptation,” Theaterkrant wrote in 2021 after the online premiere of Goud!. This year the musical fairy tale for children and parents returns!
Do you always want more? The latest phone? Another sweater? Or are you happier without wishes? This contemporary children’s opera revolves around a current theme: greed.
Composer Leonard Evers wrote Goud! in 2012 to a libretto by Flora Verbrugge. They based themselves on a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Evers composed exciting music on various percussion instruments, such as a marimba, a vibraphone, cymbals and drums. All instruments that express the sounds of the sea and fish. A singer and a percussionist play, sing and make music and bring the story to life on stage.
What is normal desire and what is excessive greed? And what consequences does our greed have on nature? Serious questions for a children’s opera. Yet Goud! not heavy-handed. Humor, poetry and music make this opera an adventure for young and old.
The opera lasts approximately one hour, without an intermission and is performed in Dutch.
Goud! is a co-production with Dutch National Opera. The performances in 2024 are realized in collaboration with De Munt / La Monnaie.
