Figaro, the former barber of Seville, is employed by Count Almaviva. Figaro needs the Count’s permission for his marriage to Susanna, the Countess’s chambermaid. In a magnanimous mood, the Count gave up his ‘right to the first night’ with the brides of his staff. However, the womanizer already regrets this, enchanted as he is by Susanna’s loveliness. The Countess and Susanna want to punish him for his adulterous behavior and ensure that the countial couple is reunited in love. The page Cherubino, who has flirted with both Susanna and the Countess, is then sent into the army by the Count. On Figaro and Susanna’s wedding day, Susanna hands the Count a note: an invitation to a rendezvous. Yet she will not be the one he meets there, but the Countess dressed as Susanna. Almaviva gets involved, learns his lesson, begs his wife for forgiveness and promises her eternal loyalty…
