Info
The story is about Orfeo who is intensely happy and is about to marry Euridice when he hears the sad news that his beloved has been killed by a bite from a poisonous snake. He is deeply shocked and decides to bring her back alive from the underworld. To the entrance to the underworld he is accompanied by the personification of Hope. He manages to convince Caronte, the ferryman who normally transports the dead across the Styx, with singing, to allow him to cross the river himself. He then persuades Pluto to give Euridice back on the condition that he does not look at her. However, he commits a human error; he is very suspicious and to make sure that Euridice is following him, he briefly looks back. In doing so he disobeys the law of the underworld and therefore loses his Euridice forever, for the second time.
