Figaro, known as the barber from II Barbiere di Siviglia, is employed by Count Almaviva. Figaro needs the Count’s permission for his marriage to Susanna, the Countess’s chambermaid. In a magnanimous mood, the Count gave up his ‘right to the first night’ with the brides of his staff. However, the womanizer soon regrets this, as he is in love with the lovely Susanna.
The Countess and Susanna want to punish him for his eternal cheating and ensure that the Countial couple comes back together in love. Cherubino, Count Almaviva’s sidekick, who has flirted with both Susanna and the Countess, is then sent into the army by his boss. On Figaro and Susanna’s wedding day, Susanna hands the Count a note: an invitation to a rendezvous. Yet she will not be the one he meets there, but the Countess dressed as Susanna.
