Fake news, alternative facts – composer Jan-Peter de Graaff is fascinated by the tension between truth and deceit. His theatrical song cycle Parallax shows how a woman is sucked into a conspiracy theory: to prove that the earth is flat, she launches herself with a rocket. The exciting form is a cross between a Schubertian song cycle and Poulenc’s intense monodrama ‘La voix humaine’. The performance is in excellent hands with soprano Katrien Baerts and Het Collectief.

Parallax is part of Werktheater Opera Zuid: a series of innovative theatrical concerts and performances in which classical singing forms the starting point for unexpected and surprising encounters between artistic forms of expression such as music, dance, fashion, visual arts, poetry & literature. With this we want to further broaden, deepen and develop the “opera” genre. Amazement and dialogue with the artists are central to this. And surprise.
