Sow a wish for the world!

What is your biggest wish? During the Week of Encounter, on 30 September at 4.00 pm, we will be sowing wishes. Together with local residents, staff and the members of Uprising choir, we want to make our little corner of the world – the Malpertuis neighbourhood – just a little bit more beautiful!

Everyone will receive a little growing card containing flower seeds. Write your wish for our world on it. Then, together, we will sow the cards in our Wishing Flower Bed. And of course, there will be music too! Community Choir Zuid will sing a short excerpt from the new opera Uprising. After sowing and singing, we will share a cup of coffee and enjoy a stökske vlaoj together.

So come and join us! Write your wish for our world on a little growing card, and plant that seed – literally and figuratively.

We hope that all our wishes bloom, just like the flower seeds. Together, we can make our world a little more beautiful!

Sow a wish for the world
Opera Zuid, Malpertuisplein 60, Maastricht
Wednesday 30 September – 4-5pm

UPRISING The community opera Uprising by Jonathan Dove and April De Angelis is about young people rising up and finding their collective voice out of love for our planet. The opera tells the story of a mother (Ingeborg Bröcheler) and daughter (Madeline Saputra) who find themselves diametrically opposed, and explores how tensions in society can play out in our personal relationships. It is a deeply human story about listening, clashing and living together, wrapped in an overwhelming richness of music and performed by Philzuid, a community choir of around 100 singers and five professional soloists. Uprising premieres on 13 November at Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht.

SOWING WISHES TOGETHER A community opera means that the community takes part in the opera. That is why we want to do this together! In this way, we bring opera a little closer to our immediate neighbours, while sowing wishes for our world and nurturing our sense of connection with one another.
