The problem is that the corrupt police chief Tiger Brown is a friend of Macheath. Ultimately they manage to get Macheath in prison, but he is quickly out of there with the help of Lucy, Brown’s daughter. Ultimately, Peachum threatens to thwart Queen Victoria’s coronation through the use of Peachum’s beggars’ organization. Once again Jenny betrays Macheath and he ends up in prison for the second time. However, at the moment of the execution, a messenger from the queen arrives announcing that Macheath will be pardoned and is even given a fair amount of money with a title of nobility.
