Info

The criminal and womanizer Macheath, better known as Mackie Messer, incurs the wrath of Jonathan Jeremiah Peachum by secretly marrying his daughter Polly. Together with his wife, Peachum makes every effort to put Macheath behind bars. For example, they bribe the hooker Jenny, Macheath’s ex-lover, into betraying the hiding place of her ex-pimp and they try to exert their influence on the police force. The problem is that the corrupt police chief Tiger Brown is a friend of Macheath. Ultimately they manage to get Macheath in prison, but he is quickly out of there with the help of Lucy, Brown’s daughter. Ultimately, Peachum threatens to thwart Queen Victoria’s coronation through the use of Peachum’s beggars’ organization. Once again Jenny betrays Macheath and he ends up in prison for the second time. Macheath then tries to bribe the guards in vain, he will eventually be hanged. However, at the moment of the execution, a messenger from the queen arrives announcing that Macheath will be pardoned and is even given a fair amount of money with a title of nobility.
