Le nozze di figaro (1991)

23 February ’91 > 13 March ’91

Info

Figaro, the former barber of Seville, is in the service of Grail Almaviva. Figaro needs permission from the Grail for his marriage to Susanna, the countess’s chambermaid. This man has just, in a magnanimous mood, waived his right to the first night with the brides of his staff. However, the avid womanizer regrets this, enchanted as he is by Susanna’s sweetness. The Countess and Susanna now want to punish the Count for his adulterous behavior and at the same time ensure that the countial couple is reunited in love. On Figaro and Susanna’s wedding day, Susanna hands the Count a note, an invitation to a rendezvous. However, it is not Susanna who goes to the rendezvous, but the countess dressed as Susanna. Deceived by the dark garden, Almaviva believes that it is Susanna with whom he is playing his passionate game. It comes to the inevitable denouement. The count has learned his lesson and promises eternal loyalty.

During all this, some other things take place, such as the intrigue between Marcellina and Figaro. Marcellina, a lady of mature age, is in possession of a promissory note in which Figaro has committed himself to marrying her. But when it turns out at the last moment that she is Figaro’s mother and Doctor Bartolo is his father, this problem is also solved.

The last main character in the web of complications is Cherubino, the count’s page. He has to find his way in love through trial and error. He is in love with every woman, especially the Countess. The enraged count pushes Cherubino away from the army. But the page manages to escape his lord’s vigilance by dressing in women’s clothes. Finally, he too finds happiness in the arms of the maid Barbarina.
